Floor 1

The first floor includes the images that I originally thought this project was about. I wanted the viewer to have a glimpse of what it might feel like to be a dancer. Not having ever danced myself, I wanted to know where they went when they closed their eyes and took a literal leap of faith. What was that mysterious place that made it worth all the long hours of tireless dedication, pain, and hard work?

 Floor 2

As the project progressed, I uncovered another facet of this world of dance. I started to play. I took the camera off the tripod with the Sony 85mm 1.4 GM (prime) lens (forcing me to choose the part of the story I wanted to tell within a constrained crop, rather than crop it later in post-processing), and captured the images in black-and-white mode. These quickly became my favorite images of the Exhibition.

The last room of the Exhibition features images that combine the emotion of the art, and an element of non-traditional dance portraiture.

Sigmon Taylor Dance Portraits

While the Art of Motion project has concluded, dance portrait sessions have become a staple in our studio offerings. Whether your dancer has just gone on pointe, or you’re celebrating the culmination of years of hard work and dedication, these sessions celebrate their athleticism and artistry in a unique way that you are bound to treasure for years to come.
